Polish Roots Passport
Polish Roots Passport

Polish citizenship by descent · for British families

Your family may already be Polish.

If a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent was a Polish citizen, you may be one too, with the right to a Polish passport and life in the EU. I find the records that prove it and file the application in Poland for you.

Who this is for

Families with a Polish line that was never broken

Families of Polish servicemen

About 119,000 Polish servicemen joined the Polish Resettlement Corps after the war, and many made their homes here. Their children and grandchildren are often eligible.

Anyone with a Polish parent or grandparent

What matters is that each person in the line held Polish citizenship when the next one was born, and never lost it.

Several relatives at once

One set of family documents can support parents, children and cousins on the same line, so each extra person costs less.

Who you will deal with

One person, from first email to passport

“You get an honest answer before you pay anything.”

I'm Karolina. I'm Polish, I speak both languages, and I know both the British and the Polish paperwork. You deal with me personally for the whole case. I'm not a lawyer. If your case needs one, I tell you before you pay.

Questions

What families usually ask

Do I need to speak Polish?

No. I deal with the Polish offices and arrange the translations.

Do I have to travel to Poland?

No. The only step you do in person is the passport application, at a Polish consulate in the UK.

Will I lose my British citizenship?

No. The UK allows dual nationality. In Poland you will be treated as a Polish citizen.

My relative became British before 1951. Is it over?

Not always. Some men kept Polish citizenship because of rules about military service. Cases like this need a closer look, which the eligibility report covers.

The Polish line runs through my grandmother.

If she married a man who was not Polish before 19 January 1951, she may have lost Polish citizenship. After that date, usually not. The free check covers this.

How long does it take?

Gathering documents usually takes 3–9 months. Polish service records from the Ministry of Defence can currently take up to 9 months. The office in Warsaw then usually takes 1–2 years to decide.

We have almost no documents.

That is common. Army records, Polish archives and UK records can usually fill the gaps. The report tells you what can be found.

Are you part of the Polish government?

No. Polish Roots Passport is an independent service. It is not connected to the Polish government, any consulate or the UK Home Office.
